The Antwerp
Diamond Bourse
Antwerp
has been home to a flourishing diamond industry
for the past 500 years. Today,
it has become
the world's most important diamond
centre, importing
over 80% of the
world's rough and polished diamonds
before being distributed further.
The Antwerp diamond centre is located
a hundred yards from the
railway station.
A multitude of
diamond merchants trade in
rough and polished diamonds
worth billions of dollars. Their activities
are based on tradition.
Strict rules
have been established
which have regulated the
industry for the past
five centuries, giving the
merchants the opportunity to put their
unparalleled professional expertise at the
disposal of clients from all
over the world.

There
are 1500 diamond firms and
250 odd diamond
cutting factories
located in the area, which
guarantees Antwerp with a highly skilled
workforce of cutters and craftsmen, renowned the
world over and synonym for quality and
perfection within a unique working
infrastructure.
Trading activities are
regulated by the industry
itself in the guise of several diamond
institutions, exchanges, where a merchant, if to
be respected, must be a member of.
The
foremost of these is the Antwerp Diamond
Bourse with
its 1500 members, belonging to
over 20 nationalities,
are the guarantors on ethics, morality
and integrity within the
trade.
The main hall of the Antwerp
Diamond Bourse is the
focal meeting point
of those involved in
the diamond industry, members
of this prestigious organisation.
Founded in 1904,
the institution has members whose activities
range from merchants to
dealers, from manufacturers to brokers,
all regulated and obliged to
adhere to a very strict code of conduct
established and regulated by the members
themselves.
This ensures
very high standards of
ethics and offers buyers the guarantee that
business will be conducted in
an atmosphere of integrity
and fair play.
